These M'sians Are Building An Ecosystem Of Apps, And They’re Starting With The Event Industry

With the advancement of technology, we see more and more industries being disrupted.

From ridesharing now becoming a norm in the transportation industry to people opting for Airbnb services online rather than traditional hotels, it’s evident that we’ll be seeing more changes to the ecosystem as time passes by.

Seeing an opportunity to create a new solution for the events industry, the team at Simajji Concept who are professionals in developing cutting edge digital and multimedia technology solutions came up with Evunity.

Leveraging off their existing partners, they built an app that changes the way people experience events by focusing on one core thing—engagement.

“A normal event is very boring. There’s no engagement and interaction with the visitor as they just come and go. Plus there’s no way to track the engagements with booths,” said the business unit head of Simajji Concept, Elaine.

With Evunity, visitors will have access to similar functions of U.S.-based event management and ticketing website, Eventbrite.

But with more functions, such as social sharing like Facebook’s News Feed, an interactive event floor map, in-app messaging, exhibitor info, check-in function and even gamification features.

Usually, merchants resort to giving out free gifts or handing out flyers at the venue’s entrance to get visitors to stop by their booths.

“Now we can pre-register the visitor and allow merchants to plan activities through the app such as challenges or games so users will come to the booth and interact with it,” she explained.

The games and challenges can be as simple as putting up a question whereby visitors then have to stop by a particular booth to answer it. They can then claim their prize by simply showing their QR codes to merchants.

As an added bonus, event organisers can also create games and challenges for certain zones in the venue to increase footfall in a particular section and the visitor who garnered the most points at the end of the day gets to go back with a prize.

The team explained that this will improve the event experience, and bring more benefits to the merchant compared to them just standing there and hoping that visitors will come to their booth.”

A Win-Win Situation

The business is based on a Software as a Service (SaaS) model where organisers have to subscribe to the service.

With there being an abundance of organisers and events in the scene, one of the challenges that is constantly faced is the lack of people wanting to rent the booths offered.

With Evunity, organisers can worry less about this as the app focuses on drawing in a large crowd by emphasising engagement.

Merchants can have confidence with the organiser as they can engage with visitors through the app, get extra marketing and publicity, and ensure that the crowd is relevant to their target audience.

This will all help in increasing footfall traffic to their booths as they can even track the number of people who visited.

The data gathered from all these events can then be appropriated for other functions that will come in the later stages of the business.

Building An Ecosystem

Currently, Evunity has been tested at Book Expo and they're targeting more book-related events in the future.

The team at Simajji have big plans for Evunity as it won't be just limited to an event management platform, but it will be part of a bigger plan—an ecosystem.

As they're currently working with book events, Evunity will work hand-in-hand with their book-rental system called Flip where users can rent books by just paying a 20% rental fee of the total amount of the book.

In the future, Evunity plans to also include an e-commerce marketplace where people can go online to buy books or other items.

Through all these, they hope to utilise the data received and have it processed using artificial intelligence and data science to better understand user's preference and behaviour.

All this data will eventually come into a central engine where the team can then learn from the data and understand customers wants and needs. This will help them to push relevant advertisements and promotions to customers rather than bombard users with irrelevant ads.

In the long run, all of these will run on a loyalty based reward system called SPRII points which can then be used throughout their whole business.
